In a solemn display of respect and solidarity, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, business magnate Tony Elumelu, Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji, musician B-Red, and other dignitaries gathered on Monday, April 6, 2026, for the service of songs honoring Chief (Barr.) Matthew Egwuenu, the late father of Arise News anchor Ojy Okpe.

Held in Victoria Island, Lagos, the ceremony marked the beginning of funeral rites for the retired Commissioner of Police, who passed away peacefully on February 6 at the age of 80. Chief Egwuenu, a native of Ukwuani Local Government Area in Delta State, is survived by one son, five daughters, grandchildren, and an extended family.

Known for his meritorious service in the Nigeria Police Force, rising to the rank of Commissioner before retirement, Chief Egwuenu was remembered as a beloved patriarch whose life impacted many. Attendees engaged in hymns, prayers, and eulogies, reflecting on his integrity and strength.

Ojy Okpe, in emotional social media tributes, described her father as a man of principle whose legacy will endure through his children and grandchildren. The service offered friends, family, and well-wishers a moment to celebrate his life while consoling the bereaved.
