AMVCA 2026: Bucci Franklin wins Best Supporting Actor, dedicates award to mother

Actor Bucci Franklin has won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for his performance in the film To Kill a Monkey.
The ceremony took place on May 9, 2026, in Lagos, where Franklin emerged winner ahead of a strong field that included Simileoluwa Hassan for The Yard, Lateef Adedimeji for Gingerrr and Red Circle, Gabriel Afolayan for Colours of Fire, Femi Adebayo for King of Thieves 2, Femi Branch for Owambe Thieves, and Uzor Arukwe for Behind the Scenes.
Franklin’s performance in To Kill a Monkey was widely praised for its emotional depth and strong character interpretation, making it one of the standout roles of the awards season.
The announcement was met with applause from guests at the Lagos ceremony as the category was declared.
Upon receiving the award, Franklin dedicated the honour to his late mother, describing it as a deeply personal achievement.
His win adds to the growing recognition of To Kill a Monkey, which was among the most discussed productions at this year’s AMVCA edition.
