Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has announced a N5 million reward for information leading to the recovery of eight mobile phones stolen during a private football match in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In a video shared on Instagram, Bakassi said the incident occurred on April 15, 2026, during a regular Wednesday evening football session attended by a group of players.

He explained that an unidentified man joined the game, participated briefly, and later claimed to be injured before moving to the sidelines, where he allegedly took advantage of the situation to steal the phones and escape.

Bakassi stated that the devices belong to businessmen who rely heavily on them for daily operations, describing the situation as urgent and disruptive to their work activities.

He confirmed that security agencies have been informed and are already working to track the suspect, while urging members of the public to be cautious about second-hand phone purchases.

The comedian also issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the return of the stolen devices, warning that failure to comply would lead to intensified efforts to apprehend the suspect.

He appealed to individuals with phone-tracking expertise to assist in locating the devices, promising a financial reward for any successful recovery.

Bakassi further advised buyers in the used-phone market to verify the identity of sellers to avoid unknowingly purchasing stolen items.
