Popular nightlife entrepreneur Pretty Mike has revealed that the 2025 raid on his nightclub, Proxy, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency resulted in losses running into billions of naira and forced the business to shut down for nine months.
Speaking in an interview with The Nation, the socialite said the operation came shortly after the burial of his father and left him shocked because he had no connection to illegal drugs.
According to Pretty Mike, NDLEA officials and security personnel stormed the club following allegations that a drug-themed party was being organised at the venue.
He said investigations later showed that substances recovered during the raid were linked to a security guard and not the nightclub's operations.
“I was surprised when I saw NDLEA because I had no connection to drugs. I was shocked if I was the target or someone in my club,” he said.
The nightclub owner stated that the closure disrupted business activities, damaged facilities and generated substantial legal expenses.
“A lot, I’m sure, running into billions. The actual raiding made us lose a lot of money. The facility was destroyed, with broken doors and equipment. We were not open for nine straight months,” he said.
Pretty Mike added that the club spent heavily on legal representation, renovations and promotional activities aimed at rebuilding customer confidence after the shutdown.
He maintained that a court eventually discharged and acquitted him of all charges, paving the way for the reopening of Proxy.
The socialite also disclosed that more than N100 million was spent renovating the nightclub ahead of its relaunch, with new interiors, furniture, lighting and entertainment offerings introduced to attract customers.
Beyond nightlife, Pretty Mike said he earns income through paid appearances, construction and real estate ventures, while expressing optimism about the future of the business despite the setback.
